It's Not Just Hair, It's A Reminder

Yesterday was the eighth day of Ashtyn being on IV antibiotics and was expected to leave the hospital. However her adrenal glands are not producing enough cortisol and her kidney’s are not functioning properly. The adrenal insufficiency can be monitor outpatient but her kidney’s need to be stable before leaving the hospital. Ashtyn’s symptoms are a little baffling and no one can quite make sense of it all.  Her urine output is way more than it should be, potassium levels are running a little high, glucose levels are a little low, and her kidney numbers are slightly abnormal. Please pray that her doctors will be inspired, her body will recover as soon as possible, and any kind of kidney damage will resolve quickly. I spent much of the day stressed because of the unusual medical findings. At the same time, Ashtyn was heartbroken because her hair was falling out. It doesn’t matter that she is beautiful bald.  It doesn’t matter that it’s just hair and will grow back. She was hoping for the miracle of keeping her hair but instead more normalcy was taken from her. I’ve noticed every time we are pushed to the edge where everything seems too much to bare and we wonder how we’ll ever endure five more months in Seattle fighting a Goliath, our burden feels more doable and our hearts have a lighter feeling giving moments of peace. Please keep praying for us.  We rely on it.
