Company Helps Pass The Time

Ashtyn has 1 1/2 weeks left of this chemotherapy round and everything is going really well. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the worst pain imaginable, her nerve pain tends to hover near a 4. About twice a day she takes an effective pain medication when shooting neuropathy brings the number to a 6. Other than that, symptoms from chemotherapy have been minimal and she has remained healthy. After being back in Seattle for four days, we both started to feel really bored. Boredom is something we rarely feel during cancer treatment. We got what we prayed for and it’s been appreciated.  Too much boredom isn’t a good thing though and we were very blessed to replace the boredom with fun when four visitors flew into Seattle yesterday. My son Ethan flew from Salt Lake City with my two girlfriends Kathy and Holly, and Ashtyn’s friend Shelli flew in from Alaska. Months ago I planned a Lake Powell girlfriend vacation for this week. Once the trip was canceled, Kathy and Holly decided to use their planned time off to hang out with us in Seattle. We couldn’t be happier about the timing. Shelli is a cancer warrior we met two months ago while inpatient at Seattle Children’s Hospital. She has since moved back to Alaska and is a forever friend who wanted to come visit. After hanging out all day, eating dinner in the park, and watching the classic chick flick “Sleepless in Seattle”, Ashtyn still had energy to chit chat all night long. Shelli had a procedure in the morning and Kathy was tired ha ha! so we called it a night at 2:00 a.m. Seattle life is good right now and I’m grateful we have company to share it with.
